L’Atelier des Lumières
First, we went to L’atelier des Lumières We were all together in a bg room with a balcony. In there, there was animated paintings all over the walls so we can say that we were part of the work because paintings were all around us from the top to the floor. There was also music belonging with the images and the representations were very diversified. ( Alexia)
(Laura)
Banksy Exhibition
The BANKSY exhibition was quite peculiar as his art is street art but it has been presented inside. The museum does fit the theme as it resembles the streets and an audio with city sounds is playing throughout the visit. His art seems to be inspired by many different social issues which makes it more interesting than just any graffiti art. He has an interesting use of different materials found in everyday life in order to relate to people.
Throughout the visit, we were lead by large paw prints which most likely belong to rats that we saw during the visit. His art isn’t very joyful, it is made in a rather morbid and dark way in order to denounce our society and since it is street art, it can be seen by everyone, therefore It has a larger impact. Black Indians Exhibition:
Arrived at the Quai Branly we were welcomed by a gorgeous pink costume dedicated to Big Chiefs, we then saw multiple garments and weapons made by Native Americans. Trough multiple paintings, we could observe how was life in America (specifically Louisiana) before the arrival of the first European settlers. We could learn about the first conquests, first by the Spanish, then the British, the German and of course the French. It was crazy to see how much lands had France before being in war. And with the first conquests, came the first settlers and the start of slavery. Slavery was a huge part of American history and economy at the time, Black people were purchased like any other item and were treated like animals, working to death. But after the American Civil war, slavery was abolished by Abraham Lincoln yet racism was still severely present in the society. At the time it was completely normal and accepted that people of colour were inferior to white people. So the segregation started and the rise of the KKK, a racist and violent cult were killing Black people for “the sake of religion”. Hopefully racism became less and less accepted thanks to many people led by Martin Luther King who fought against this unfair society. But many people haven’t forgotten about their heritages and the impact their ancestors had on the American history. Therefore, the traditions of Natives and Black Americans was passed through the generations and nowadays, on Mardi Gras, Black Indians parade dressed in gorgeous gowns in the streets of New Orleans. They all dance, sing and exchange their culture and knowledge during hours and hours of parade. (Karen)
